1. When it comes to the start of this walk, there is no obvious parking for access to Knockcree, other than a verge at the top of a hill, known locally as ‘Archie’s Hill’, which is located at the very top of the Ballymageogh Road. The Ballymageogh Road can be accessed from either Kilkeel or Attical village.

2. From here, you follow a track past a farm, through a gate and into the forest. Follow the trail path straight ahead, which gradually rises in elevation and sweep around to the left. Continue on the path, which will rise up to a five bar iron gate. From here you will see a narrow but obvious trail to the top of Knockcree.

3. Cross the gate and follow the path onto the top of the mountain where you will enjoy panoramic views across Mourne and as far as Carlingford Lough and the Cooley Mountains before carefully following the route in reverse back to your car.

*Note: The trail is wide and gradually climbs up towards the gate at the bottom of Knockcree. Once you cross the gate onto the open hillside, the path becomes narrow and can be uneven underfoot. A good pair of sturdy shoes or grippy trainers will go a long way. Please also note there can be livestock on the hillside and the ground may become muddy and slippy throughout the wetter months.
